Are you a follower of fashion? Do you love to check out the latest trends? Well here’s a quick guide for Spring/Summer 2015 to get you on the right track. There are many more trends to be explored – I’ll share those with you over the coming weeks. But for now I’ve put together 6 of the best. 6 of the most wearable trends; the ones that will become wardrobe classics and give you the most bang for your buck. Because, after all, classic styling (and a bit of bang for your buck) is what Style Counsel is all about!
White on White
White has long been my wardrobe staple. My go-to shade, and mostly paired with other light neutrals. Winter or Summer, you’ll always find me wearing or styling my clients in the coolest ‘no colour’ there is!
And the good news is you CAN wear white on white. You don’t have to worry about the shades matching either. Mix the textures, layer up and team with a nude or tan shoe for true summer style.
Al’s Style Tip: Avoid wearing white at Weddings. You don’t want to steal the Bride’s thunder, now do you? Tacky…
Black and White
Still going strong, monochrome is for everyone. You don’t have to think about what goes with what and it always looks clean, classic and fresh. And with Derby Day fast approaching (31st October) with the black and white dress-code, the two dresses below would really hit the spot, don’t you think?
Al’s Style Tip: Wear white up against the face to take 10 years off instantly!
The Shirt Dress
Could it possibly get much more comfortable than a shirt dress? Long or short, with heels or flats or even sneakers, the shirt dress is on fire this season. Take your pick from collared with buttons through to a simple longer tee-shirt style.
Al’s Style Tip: Not too short please – that’s actually when it becomes a shirt (or tee) and leaves others wondering if you forgot to put the other half of your outfit on!
Join the Military
Ever dreamed of joining the army? Well you don’t have to go that far if you just adopt the latest olive and khaki trend. Everything from cargo pants to shorts and shirts, you’ll be ready for action in this cool shade.
Al’s Style Tip: Freshen up khaki separates with white – perhaps white skinny jeans and a khaki shirt, or wear a white singlet with khaki cargoes. To dress it up at night, team with strappy black heels and an oversized envelope-clutch.
In the Navy…
Yes you can sail the seven seas…(Woops. Sorry, The Village People just took over there for a bit) but you also don’t have to join the Navy to do so.
For a while there I never thought we’d see Navy make it’s very welcome return. Just a fraction softer and more wearable than basic black, Navy is a winner. Look for a good French Navy – the darkest shade without being black, because nothing spells classic better than that! But be sure to get in quickly and stock up on as much as you can in the season’s current styles and shapes before it departs our shores once more.
Al’s Style Tip: At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, team it with white for classic fool-proof freshness. And YES you can wear black with navy, contrary to outdated style rules. Beware red and white with navy though – a bit too cliché nautical. Why not try a splash of pastel pink or baby yellow or mint instead? But my pick of the bunch? You’ll never fail with simple navy and white stripes, no matter what the season.
Denim Is ALWAYS in Style
But this season, you’ll find it everywhere and will be spoilt for choice! Even tencel is making a come-back, in denim-look slouchy cargoes and tops/shirts. From pale chambrays right through to darker denim, you won’t ever go wrong and will have these little beauties forever. And best of all you’ll find a way to wear to wear them all year round.
Al’s Style Tip: Team pale chambray shades with white (first choice, always) and other pale, washed out pastels for a soft, fresh, feminine look.
The best news of all, is that all of the above examples of this season’s most wearable trends are available at Kawana Shoppingworld. And as the centre’s Fashion Stylist, I’ve gotta say I’ve had a ball finding these examples so you can all hit the shops tomorrow (or now!) using this guide for inspiration.
Stay tuned for more posts like this over the coming weeks. And remember, you can always chat to me here or on Facebook (or here on Kawana Shoppingworld’s Facebook page) if you have any style questions or dilemmas you need solved!
