ABOUT

2013-10-30_15-55-23

Alison has worked in the Image Industry most of her life; in advertising, modelling and TV Production. From the beginning, she knew that using her talents in that industry wasn’t enough. As creative as it allowed her to be, there was still something missing – the opportunity to change/affect everyday people in a positive and personal way.

In 2004, her ongoing health battle “won” and she left her job at Channel Seven. That same year, Style Counsel was born, and ever since, the industry that she knows so well has actually become the medium that allows her to spread her message and share her special brand of styling from the inside out; to help everyone look good, feel better, and be empowered with realistic goals and a healthy self-esteem.

In demand as a Speaker, Alison bravely shares her personal story in order to inspire, motivate and empower. She facilitates Corporate Image Workshops and delivers Keynote presentations on everything from Invisible Disability to Personal Style – and always with her signature sense of humour and grace.

ALISON’S PHILOSOPHY

“I believe that when you look good, you really do feel better; and it is within our personal power to choose how we look and feel.”

Style is not just fashion. It’s about harnessing the power of a positive first impression, and more importantly, the power that comes from feeling confident when you know you are looking your best.

THE BACKSTORY

“My journey as a Personal Stylist began many years ago when I was working in advertising. While my job was in Media Management, I also styled advertising campaigns: selecting models, styling products and achieving ‘the right look’.  I then moved into television production at WIN TV Canberra.

Whilst working in these roles, I was approached by The Elite Academy and asked to join their books as a model – all 5’3″ of me! Because of my ‘day job’ in television and advertising I was also called upon to teach grooming and deportment skills, and also mentor upcoming models on the attributes sought by the television & advertising industries.

Fast-forward a number of years to my move to Brisbane with husband Shane and two littlies (Corey & Elle) and my period as a Stay-At-Home-Mum. When the time came to return to the workforce, TV again beckoned. I worked on Channel Seven News (Directors Assistant) then The Great South East / Creek to Coast / Queensland Weekender (Production Assistant). Once again, back to an industry which revolves around image management.

Over time, ongoing health issues made it difficult for me to work regular office hours and so, I began looking for a way to earn an income whilst still following my passion. In 2004, the seed was sown when a friend asked me to run a deportment course for her daughter and friends. Other courses and private clients soon followed and Style Counsel was born.

Over the years, Style Counsel has evolved and grown to accommodate changing health issues. When it became clear I would no longer be able to work the same way (i.e. pounding the pavement shopping with clients) I shifted gears. I soon became the “Queen of Online Shopping” (long before it was the big deal it is today!). The rest, as they say, is history!”
