Clothes, Clothes Everywhere, and Not A Thing To Wear!

How often have you stood in front of your wardrobe and stared, perplexed, at the jumble of clothes on offer. How often have you felt that you didn’t know where to start in pulling together an outfit, because it was all just too much.
If a tidy desk is the sign of a tidy mind, then a tidy wardrobe is the sign of a tidy style.
Here are some basic ways to get your wardrobe in shape and ready to suit your lifestyle:
1. Colour-code your wardrobe. Hang tops on the top row, bottoms on the bottom (if the configuration of your wardrobe allows), and hang in colour groups from long-sleeve, to 3/4 to short, to sleeveless.
2. Store shoes in clear shoe-boxes – label them if can too! Saves SO much time when you’re looking for the right shoe to suit a particular outfit.
3. Create a space/drawer devoted solely to one type of item e.g. belts and accessories; Another space devoted specifically for bags; Another for scarves etc etc.
4. Cull seasonally (or even just twice a year is fine). Go through your wardrobe and pull out (for storage) whatever you doubt you’ll wear/need for the season ahead. For example, as autumn/winter approaches, create hanging space by removing all your strappy camisole-style tops and replace with long-sleeved shirts or tops instead.
If you’re going for the “pull it all out and start afresh”, I’d recommend using some boxes, baskets or hampers to help you sort your clothes into piles such as KEEP, TRASH, CHARITY, MEND and UNDECIDED. For Wardrobe Workouts for my clients I use the fabulous Sorting Hampers from Green Apple Organising. Adele from Green Apple Organising draws on her experience as a Personal Concierge and Professional Organiser to source the best organising tools available.
A personal favourite of mine is Green Apple’s FlipFold. It makes folding your “foldables” a breeze and because everything is uniform in size, you create so much more room in your draws or on shelves. It’s also great when packing – just see how much extra room you will gain in your suitcase using this little beauty!
You can also make messy underwear, socks and ‘”odds and sods” drawers a thing of the past with the Expanding Drawer Dividers that create neat sections in any size drawer.
You can also keep your accessories under control with the Green Apple Dazzle Jewellery Organiser.
I have each of these little tools and tricks in my wardrobe and can vouch for what a difference they make.
